About Us Our History

Our History

Our history dated back to January of 1975 when Rev. John Kao, sent by CNEC with the goal of planting a church in Toronto, Canada,  founded Toronto Chinese Community Church.  The very first Sunday worship service was held at Bedford Park Chapel with an attendance of 58 people.  After a year, the congregation moved to Bedford Park United Church.

When part of the congregation moved to the new church building in Scarborough at Birchmount and Sheppard, the Lawrence congregation stayed behind and continued their ministry among students with Rev. Samuel Ng helping to pastor the congregation.  In April of 1984,  Pastor Sam Chan became the Pastor of the Lawrence congregation and was ordained the following year.   In October of 1985, the Lawrence congregation moved north to Lewis Beattie Secondary School (Yonge/Drewry) and was named the "Yonge North Church".

 1 Praise awaits you, our God, in Zion;
   to you our vows will be fulfilled.
2 You who answer prayer,
   to you all people will come.
3 When we were overwhelmed by sins,
   you forgave our transgressions.
4 Blessed are those you choose
   and bring near to live in your courts!
   We are filled with the good things of your house,
   of your holy temple.

Psalm 65:1-4
